SEI Alumni Highlight: Becky Menich

“My story is really not so different than many others, yet it is uniquely my own.  SEI gave me a solid platform from which I’ve leaped into a whole new career.  Here’s a little bit about how I did that, and I hope my story inspires you to keep moving forward with your dreams of working in this ever-evolving industry of renewable energy.

I am an electrical engineer with a background in antenna theory and radio communications.  Many years ago I was diagnosed with Late Stage Neurological Lyme Disease.  Long story short, I slept for many years, and awoke to a different world. I realized that I needed to return to work and help move our community forward into a clean-energy future.  I really didn’t know how to do this.  Despite my engineering degree and many years working as a senior-level engineer, I had been out of work more than a decade, so my resume was old and I felt it was very close to being worthless in obtaining a professional-level job.

One day I just decided that I needed to try something to get my foot in the door.  I really believed that I could be a part of the solution and with a few classes I could start building out PV systems everywhere.  Well… it takes more than just a few classes, but oh how those classes have changed my life!!!”

SEI’s Programa Hispano Alumni Highlight:
Orlando Salcedo Galleguillos

Orlando

From the first moment the course began, Orlando was extremely excited to begin learning about solar PV technologies and opportunities as a career. He asked if his son could accompany him during the training program and learn something as well. So the both of them attended the entire program, studied hard, completed all of the quizzes, and had a strong desire to learn as much as they possibly could.

Orlando wrote us recently letting us know that he was now working for a business supplying electric parts to solar PV companies! The company offered him the position as Sales Representative of Equipment for solar PV power plants in the region.

He will be touring the plants and replacing electric equipment where it is needed. They gave him the work thanks to the training program he completed with SEI. Now he wants to send Diego, his 14 year old son, to Paonia, Colorado so he can get hands-on training himself and learn more through SEI’s training program.

We are very excited as we just learned this week that he son Diego will in fact be here in Colorado for our June Spanish PV201L: Solar Electric Lab Week! What a great story – like father – like son feeling the love for solar energy!

SEI’s Programa Hispano Alumni Highlight:
Sebastian Trujillo Aciares

Sabastian

Sebastian is a recent graduate from SEI’s training program in Copiapo, Chile. When Sebastian saw the amount of bus stops with PV systems that didn’t function in his local community and how many PV powered lights in the streets that were dirty, he decided to start his own small business maintaining PV systems. He attributes his success to the training he received from SEI. Because of his training, he saw an excellent opportunity to begin a new dream and provide a meaningful and stable line of work to provide for his wife and two daughters. Sebastian would like to thank SEI and all of his instructors from his training program. Great work Sebastian and keep on shining!

SEI’s Programa Hispano Alumni Highlight:
Leandro Rodriguez Rojas

Leandro

Leandro, a recent graduate from SEI’s training program in Copiapo, Chile, got a job interview only one week after he completed his training with SEI. That same day of the interview, he was offered a job! He was unemployed for a little while and had previously worked in a mine, but thanks to his technical solar PV training with SEI he now has a chance to start a new career! Congratulations Leandro!

SEI Veteran Alumni Highlight: Michael Tabb

Veteran Highlight

“I began in solar nearly two years ago in the utility scale sector. I was involved in the DC commissioning of nearly 8 MW in SW Georgia. I was literally thrown to the wolves and introduced to solar very quickly, yet after those jobs were finished I longed for more of a deeper understanding of exactly what I was doing out there in the solar fields.

I was called on veterans day while on site and offered a scholarship to attend SEIs 101 Design and Installation course, which I was extremely grateful for as well. As I went through the course I truly began to connect my solar dots, and really understand the whys of what I was doing. I now currently work as an installer/sales rep for a quickly growing solar company out of Pensacola, FL by the name of Sunfarm Energy.

The transition to residential was made much easier due to the 101 class I took through SEI. I plan on continuing my education through SEI, but intend to focus more on the sales and business side of the industry. Once again, I am extremely grateful for the scholarship and equally grateful for the outstanding training I received through SEI.” – Michael Tabb
