It’s always great when one gets the chance to translate theoretical knowledge in to practical real-world experience. Today we began the lab week where the students and instructors will be installing two different PV systems, in a mock-up scenario. The systems will be live in the end just enough so everyone gets a chance to go through the steps of commissioning a PV system. We got a lot done today and all the students are very eager to get to work and receive their check marks for learning and achieving a new PV installation skill. SEI must thank some of our generous sponsors who provided equipment for this weeks activity; First Solar, SMA, KACO, iEnergia, and Solar Trust. We are looking forward to the coming days which will end on Thursday with a tour of a solar plant developed by Acciona Energy followed by a discussion on Chile’s Net Billing rules and then the final closing graduation ceremony.

Hoy nosotros empezamos la semana de laboratorio y los estudiantes y instructores van a instalar dos sistemas FV diferentes. Van a poner los sistemas en marcha bastante para tener la experiencia. Completamos much\u00edsimo hoy y todos los estudiantes tienen ganas de aprender nuevas habilidades de instalaci\u00f3n FV. Our first week here in Chile is officially complete. We covered a ton of information, and everyone’s heads are super full with good information to take them in to the installation work we will be doing next week. We have an incredible group of students; engaged, energized and eager to learn. This week we all rest, maybe take an adventure to the beach or the desert, and get ready to put what we have learned in the classroom in to practice starting Monday morning. Nuestra primera semana aqu\u00ed en Chile es oficialmente completa. Nosotros cubrimos muchos temas interesantes, y todos nuestros cerebros son llena con informaci\u00f3n para usar durante la pr\u00f3xima semana de instalaci\u00f3n. Tenemos un grupo de estudiantes incre\u00edble; curiosos, energ\u00e9tico y con muchas ganas de aprender. Esta fin de semana todos nosotros descansamos, tal vez tomamos una aventura a la playa o el desierto, y preparamos poner todo lo que hemos aprendido en el aula a la pr\u00e1ctica en la ma\u00f1ana de lunes. Con esto yo dejo a todos ustedes un peque\u00f1o blog de video de la semana pasada.<\/p>\n

\nFun little fact, the sun is 93 million miles away from Earth, and it takes a screaming 8 minutes for the light leaving it (in the form of photons) to reach us all down here on our beautiful blue planet. Pretty easy statistic to grasp even if 93 million miles seems unattainable. What is even more mind blowing is that those photons are created from gases within the sun\u0092s core. And it takes 150,000 years for those gases to mingle, coalesce, form in to photons, and travel to the edge of the sun. That is 150,000 years just to the edge, then it takes another month to reach the surface of the sun at which point they fly off the edge to begin the 8 minute journey to Earth. WOW! Something to think about the next time your solar system is producing electricity or heat!<\/p>\n

I mention this, as it makes me think about the forces of change, the shifting patterns all around us, but more effectively the coalescing of conscious minds, hearts, and actions. Today we began the third day of our Chile workshop. This morning as I walked in to the Liceo Jose Antonio Carvajal school, where the workshop is being hosted, I was surrounded by hundreds of youth on their way to first period class, and I thought about their energy future, about how SEI is occupying one of their classrooms to train Chile\u0092s next solar technicians, and how it feels like all of us, the instructors our students, the team on the ground are forming in to the next photons ready to lift off and shine a bright light on those kids future planet.<\/p>\n

This is what the SEI experience has always been, 40,000+ people in the past 24 years have come together for a technical learning experience but found something more, something as powerful as 150,000 years, one month and 8 minutes. I feel the awareness of such a force of community can carry us where we want to be and in much less time than it takes for those photons to travel through the sun and I am honored to be here with this week’s trainees to share in this opportunity.<\/p>\n

Oh, and today in class we learned about solar site analysis, wiring, inverters, and took a bunch of quizzes. Seemed kind of boring to write about.<\/p>\n

\nUn hecho interesante: el sol es 93 millones millas de la Tierra y toma 8 minutos para la luz (en forma de fotones) dejando para llegar abajo aqu\u00ed en nuestro hermoso planeta azul. Una estad\u00edstica bastante f\u00e1cil comprender aunque 93 millones millas parece inalcanzable. Lo es a\u00fan m\u00e1s extraordinario es que los fotones son creados de los gases dentro de la base del sol. Y toma 150.000 a\u00f1os para los gases se mezclan, se fusionan, forman en fotones, y viajar hasta el borde del sol. Esta es 150.000 a\u00f1os justo al borde, entonces toma otro mes para llegar a la superficie del sol, al momento en que vuelen fuera del borde para comenzar el viaje de 8 minutos a la Tierra. \u00a1WOW! Algo para pensar la pr\u00f3xima vez que su sistema solar produce electricidad o calor.<\/p>\n

Menciono esto, ya que me hace pensar de las fuerzas del cambio, los patr\u00f3nes cambiantes alrededor de nosotros, y tambi\u00e9n el coalescente de acciones, corazones y mentes conscientes. Hoy comenzamos el tercer d\u00eda de nuestro taller en Chile. Esta ma\u00f1ana cuando entr\u00e9 en la escuela Liceo Jos\u00e9 Antonio Carvajal, la ubicaci\u00f3n del taller, estaba rodeado de cientos de j\u00f3venes en su camino al primera clase, y pens\u00e9 sobre su future de energ\u00eda, sobre c\u00f3mo SEI est\u00e1 ocupando una de sus clases para entrenar los pr\u00f3ximos t\u00e9cnicos solares de Chile, y c\u00f3mo se siente que todos nosotros, instructores, estudiantes, y el equipo sobre el terreno, est\u00e1n formando en los pr\u00f3ximos fotones listos para levantar y brillar una luz brillante sobre la planeta del futuro.<\/p>\n

Esto es lo que hace la experiencia de SEI. 40.000 personas desde 24 a\u00f1os han juntado para la experiencia de aprendizaje t\u00e9cnico, pero encontraron algo m\u00e1s, algo tan potente como 150.000 a\u00f1os, un mes y 8 minutos. Yo siento la conciencia de fuerza de nuestra comunidad y como puede llevarnos donde queremos estar en menos tiempo que toma para los fotones a viajar a trav\u00e9s del sol, y me siento honrado ser parte.<\/p>\n

Ah\u0097y hoy en clase aprendimos sobre an\u00e1lisis del sitio solar, cableado, inversores, y tomamos un mont\u00f3n de pruebas. Parec\u00eda aburrido escribir sobre.<\/p>\n

\nNovember 30, 2015; Chile PV Training #2 Commences<\/strong>
\nReporting from Copiapo, Chile. As we awoke the morning of SEI’s second Utility PV training in Chile, the desert skies were cool and misty. As soon as we began the workshop with our 20 Chilean students, the sun broke apart those misty skies shining upon us it’s glory, signifying good things to come over the next two weeks.<\/p>\n

The first day of an SEI workshop is always so special. Meeting our students, hearing about their ambitions and passions for learning about renewable energy helps set the stage for that very special experience and journey we embark on together.<\/p>\n

Today was a typical Monday. After orientation and logistics we dove right in to presentations on Basics of Electricity, Components, Modules, and Multi Meters. In the afternoon we stepped outside into the 1200 W\/m2 solar irradiation to do some module and meter labs. Another wonderful group of students has come together for this workshop. Everyone is excited and eager to learn. As the days advance we will continue to learn, practice, laugh, and form new bonds for years to come.<\/p>\n

30 de noviembre de 2015: Comienza Capacitaci\u00f3n FV de Chile #2<\/strong>
\nInformes desde Copiap\u00f3, Chile. Cuando nosotros despertamos esta ma\u00f1ana para comenzar la segunda capacitaci\u00f3n FV de Utilidad en Chile, los cielos del desierto eran fr\u00edas y brumosas. Tan pronto como iniciamos el taller con nuestros 20 estudiantes chilenos, el sol rompi\u00f3 aparte los brumosos cielos brillando sobre nosotros, lo que significa buenas cosas por venir en las pr\u00f3ximas dos semanas.<\/p>\n

El primer d\u00eda de una capacitaci\u00f3n de SEI siempre es tan especial. El proceso de conocer a nuestros estudiantes, escuchando acerca de sus ambiciones y pasiones para aprender sobre las energ\u00edas renovables, siempre establece un estado de \u00e1nimo para una experiencia y tiempo especial que sentiremos juntos durante las semanas.<\/p>\n

Hoy fue un lunes t\u00edpico. Despu\u00e9s de orientaci\u00f3n y log\u00edsticas, empezamos con presentaci\u00f3nes de B\u00e1sicos de Electricidad, Componentes, M\u00f3dulos y Mult\u00edmetros. En la tarde nos camin\u00f3 afuera en la irradiaci\u00f3n solar de 1200 W\/m2 para hacer algunos laboratorios de m\u00f3dulo y metro. Otro grupo maravilloso de alumnus se ha reunido para este taller. Todos est\u00e1n muy contentas y con ganas de aprender. Como avanzan de los d\u00edas seguiermos aprender, practicar, re\u00edr y formar nuevos v\u00ednculos para a\u00f1os por venir.<\/p>\n

\nNovember 29, 2015; SEI kicks off Series of Six PV Training’s in Chile<\/strong>
\nTwo weeks ago SEI began a PV training program in Chile aimed at growing a local solar workforce in one of the fastest growing solar electric markets in Latin America. This first workshop in a series of six total saw 23 Chilean students graduate from SEI’s 101 Utility course. The 9-day course covered classroom and hand-on installation activities, plus a tour of First Solar’s 141 megawatt (MW) alternating current (AC) Luz del Norte Solar Project, the largest in Latin America.<\/p>\n

Many thanks to our instructors Brad Burkhartzmeyer, Chris Brooks, and Mike Sullivan as well as our workshop coordinators and Spanish Program team Daniel Gonzalez and Lilly Justman. SEI is honored to be partnering with the Chilean Government to provide industry-leading solar technical training.<\/p>\n

I am now on the ground along with instructors Mike Sullivan and Karolina Fernandez to begin our second workshop Monday morning where we will greet 27 new students, who will begin their solar education. Tune in to this Blog over the next two weeks to hear stories from the ground.<\/p>\n

29 de noviembre de 2015: SEI Se Inicia la Serie de Seis Capacitaci\u00f3nes FV en Chile<\/strong>
\nHace dos semanas SEI comenz\u00f3 un programa de capacitaci\u00f3n en Chile concentrado en el crecimiento de una mano de obra local y solar en uno de los mercados solar el\u00e9ctricos m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido crecimiento en Am\u00e9rica Latina. Este primer capacitaci\u00f3n de un serie de seis, tuvo 23 estudiantes que se graduaron de SEI\u0092s curso 101 del tema Utilidad. El curso de 9 d\u00edas tuvo lecciones y actividades pr\u00e1cticas y en el aula, y tambi\u00e9n incluy\u00f3 un recorrido del sitio de la planta Luz del Norte de First Solar, una planta con 141 megavatios de corriente alterna, el m\u00e1s grande de Am\u00e9rica Latina.<\/p>\n

Much\u00edsimas gracias a nuestros instructores Brad Burkhartzmeyer, Chris Brooks y Mike Sullivan y tambi\u00e9n a nuestras coordinadores del taller e equipo del Programa Hispano, Daniel Gonzaelez y Lilly Justman.
